Rakesh Joshi, 50, has been sitting on hunger strike outside the district collector’s office in Neemuch, demanding to know the whereabouts of his daughter who went missing over a year ago.
An elderly man has been sitting on hunger strike outside the district collector’s office in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district since March 8 this year, demanding action in the abduction case of his 20-year-old daughter.
Rakesh Joshi, 50, says his daughter Neha went missing from their house under the Manasa police station's jurisdiction over a year ago, on January 23, 2021. Despite lodging a case of kidnapping under sections 365 and 366 against four accused, police have yet to find the whereabouts of the girl.
“My daughter Neha Joshi was kidnapped on January 23 last year. On April 9, police registered a kidnapping case against four persons and arrested all of them but till date I do not know what happened to my daughter. Is she dead or alive? I have the right to know that,” Joshi told India Today.

The desperate father added that police registered a case and arrested the accused only after he went to Bhopal and complained to the chief minister and home minister on March 9, 2021.
During investigation, police rounded up the four accused on the basis of Neha Joshi’s call details, but they were let off after initial round of questioning.
Police said the four accused confessed to picking up the missing girl from her house at 4 pm on January 23. They claimed that they dropped her at a temple about 8 km from her home around 10 pm the same day. On conducting a search, cops recovered Neha Joshi’s mobile phone from the temple premises.
