Hanuman Chalisa row: MP Navneet Rana, MLA husband Ravi to petition Bombay HC to quash case

Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana will seek to quash Hanuman Chalisa case against them before the Bombay High Court.

The Borivali Magistrate court in Mumbai granted bail to Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana on Thursday in a case of resisting arrest and obstructing police personnel from doing duty.

After walking out of the court, Navneet and Ravi Rana said that their legal team would approach the Bombay High Court soon with a plea to quash the Hanuman Chalisa case against them.

“For reading Hanuman Chalisa, this fake case was foisted against us by then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and then Mumbai police commissioner Sanjay Pandey. Thackeray is now sitting at home while Raut and Pandey are in prison. Some more people will go to prison. We will be moving the Bombay High Court soon to quash the case,” the couple said.

Both Navneet and Ravi Rana were present in the 67th Magistrate RG Bagade’s court on Thursday and while committing the case to sessions, the duo was directed to be present before the Mumbai sessions court on October 1. Surety was also furnished by the two.

The two were never arrested in the case during the investigation and after the filing of the chargesheet recently, the two appeared before the court and furnished surety. The case has also been committed to the Mumbai sessions court by Borivali Magistrate court.

“The record of the case, documents and articles which are to be produced in evidence shall be sent to the Sessions Court. The Senior Inspector of Khar police station is directed to produce the Muddemal property is any before the special MP, MLA court,” ordered Magistrate Bagade.
