
Gujarat man forces Muslim family to chant Jai Shri Ram, later attacked by mob

The Ahmedabad man, identified as Rajdeep Samanta, confronted the Muslim family returning from a wedding, which led to the mob attack. Later, Samanta was arrested for hurting religious sentiments.
A man who allegedly stopped a Muslim family on the road and pressured them to chant "Jai Shri Ram" was later surrounded and attacked by a mob outside a police station in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, officials said on Sunday.
One policeman was also injured in the incident, and a case has been registered against a mob of 75 people.
The incident occurred around 1 am today in the Kagadapith area. According to police, Rajdeep Samanta, who was riding a Bullet motorcycle, intercepted a Muslim family returning from a wedding and got into an argument with them.
He allegedly made remarks that hurt religious sentiments and pressured the family to chant the Hindu slogan.
The family managed to leave the spot and later informed members of the local Muslim community about the incident. Shortly afterwards, a crowd gathered and surrounded Samanta.
Sensing the situation, a police team on night patrol reached the spot and rescued Samanta from the crowd, taking him to a nearby police station. However, several people from the crowd followed the police van to the station.

As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
