"People are suffering the consequences of the policies of the Centre. But the Centre, instead of accepting its failed policies, is busy blaming the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru,” Manmohan Singh said in a video message.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday, February 17, said that the Centre is “blaming the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru for its failed policies”.

“The situation is worrisome. People are suffering the consequences of the policies of the Centre. But the Centre, instead of accepting its failed policies, is busy blaming the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru,” Manmohan Singh said in a video message.

Former PM Manmohan Singh's comments came soon after PM Modi's attack on the Nehru government earlier this month. During his reply to the debate on the motion of thanks on President Ram Nath Kovind's address during the Budget session of Parliament earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on multiple occasions. "Pandit Nehru said from the Red Fort that sometimes war in Korea can impact us and so, prices of commodities increase in India. The first PM of the country was helpless,” Modi said.

“Pandit Nehru also said if something happens in America, it affects the price of our commodities. If you [Congress] were in power today, you would have blamed inflation on the Covid pandemic and run away,” Modi added. He also blamed Nehru, saying: "Nehru left Goa to fend for itself to protect his global image. He let Satyagrahis in Goa march to their deaths in 1955."

On Wednesday, PM Modi blamed the Congress governments under Nehru and Indira Gandhi for failing to bring Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara within India’s territory “despite getting three chances in 1947, 1965 and 1971”.
