Nature camp educates Madurai students on forests and environmental conservation to create awareness for future generations.
More than 100 students from various government schools in Madurai were taken to forest areas in Kutladampatti and a sight visit to green Tamil Nadu nursery in the Sholavandan forest range.
The nature camp programme, conducted by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forest, along with the School Education Department, was organised to educate students on the importance of forests and environmental conservation.
The programme which is conducted in all the districts is aimed at creating an awareness of deforestation, ill-effects of single-use plastics, various causes of pollution, among others, as they would be carrying the word to the next generation, an official said.
“When students at their young age are given an idea about the marvellous nature we are surrounded by, they will think twice before destructing or polluting it,” he added.

Selected from 9,400 submissions across 37 countries, the 100 photographs on display traverse intimate and political terrains. In MRC Nagar, photographer Swastik Pal captures life in the Sundarbans, where severe climate change has brought humans and wildlife into closer contact. Shane Hynan’s Beneath Beofhod reflects on Ireland’s boglands as sites of memory and restoration, while Mateo Trevisan’s More than the Sun examines the impact of coal-driven industrialisation in the Western Balkans.
