Google has developed a smart lamp, but you won’t be able to buy one as it is not available for everyone.
Google offers a variety of products to users, ranging from wireless earbuds to smartphones. You will also find a few smart home devices, including Chromecast, security cameras and smart displays. Google has now created a smart lamp too, but you won’t be able to buy one as it is not available for everyone.
Google’s designer Ben Gold has shared an image of the lamp on Twitter with a note that this gadget “will likely never be for sale outside of the company.” The company is calling it “dLight.” It has been designed to offer users “optimum lighting for video calls.” As people these days are working from home, this could come in handy for such use cases.
The images show that the lamp features a circular base and thin post, housing a cylindrical light. It is being made available in a single bright white colour. The smart lamp even comes with the ability to customize the brightness and colour temperature.
9to5Google reported that the lamp can be controlled with the help of Google Assistant. One will have to use the Google Home app to control it. The lamp even features a USB-C port, which is not visible in the photos, but the company’s designer claims that it does come with one, which means that it is rechargeable. The cited source also reported that the lamp can also receive over-the-air updates.
This smart lamp has been created by the company’s internal team and is only being offered to those who work at Google. In addition to this, the search giant is not charging anything for this lamp and is offering it for free, but it is only available for those who are based in the US.
The eligible users can get it via the internal store or site. Besides, this is not the first time that the software giant has created an employee-exclusive product. In 2017, the company also created a pair of Google-branded over-the-ear headphones for its employees. The latest attempt is to improve the work from home experience of its workers.
If you are looking for a smart lamp, then you can check out the ones that Xiaomi is selling in India. There is a Mi Smart LED Desk Lamp 1S, which comes with brightness control (2600-5000K), colour temperature control, and supports voice assistants. It features a thin foldable structure that one can open and shut at a 135-degree angle. It can be controlled via the Mi Home app. This lamp is currently priced at Rs 2,699.
