The Chennai Customs seized 5.5 kg gold worth Rs 2.53 core and foreign currency worth Rs 24 lakh hidden in wigs, socks and underwear in different incidents and six passengers have been arrested at the city airport.

The officials at the Chennai airport found Magroob Akbarali, a resident of Ramanathapuram and Zubair Hassan Rafiyutheen, a resident of Chennai, hiding 595 grams of gold underneath their wigs. Both the accused, who came from Dubai, had concealed two gold paste packets weighing 595 grams underneath their wigs. In another case, Balu Ganesan, a resident of Trichy, who arrived by same flight as Magroob and Zubair, was also arrested for smuggling gold. Three bundles of gold paste weighing 622 grams were recovered from Balu's rectum.More Related News
