Geetha Govindam, Dear Comrade: ViRosh romance through screen stories together
India Today
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's love story in real life grew with their professional collaborations. Geetha Govindam is where it started, Dear Comrade was the film where it grew, and the couple will be seen in Ranabaali after wedding.
In 2018, a lovestruck young man named Govind stood in the middle of a dream sequence and imagined a life with the woman he had fallen for. The song was Vachindamma, the film was Geetha Govindam, and the man dreaming about a happy married life was played on screen by Vijay Deverakonda. The woman of his dreams, at that point on screen at least, was Rashmika Mandanna.
Nobody quite knew then that life had already quietly begun scripting something far more interesting than the film.
Fast-forward to 2026, and what Govind once dreamt in that sun-soaked fantasy sequence, Vijay is living in real life. Today, Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda get married, and if that is not the universe having a moment with itself, nothing is.
Geetha Govindam, directed by Parasuram, was a phenomenon. Not just in Vijay Deverakonda's career, but to everyone who is associated with it. A breezy, charming romantic drama that had audiences swooning from the first frame, it worked because of the effortless chemistry between its two leads. Vijay and Rashmika did not just share screen space — they lit it up. The banter, the longing, the push and pull — it all felt startlingly real, which, as it turns out, may have had something to do with the fact that it was.
For Vijay Deverakonda, Geetha Govindam was pivotal. It came right after the success of Pelli Choopulu and Arjun Reddy. While he proved his mettle as an actor, he had a monumental job in front of him – to become a commercial hero. One who is accepted by family audiences. Geetha Govindam provided the opportunity for him to knock on the doors of the Telugu audiences and live with them rent-free. His native character and innocence worked majorly in the film's favour.
Rashmika Mandanna, too, was quite new to Telugu cinema in 2018. She had one Telugu release called Chalo, after three Kannada films. Though Chalo was a success, it was Geetha Govindam that made Rashmika a household name among Telugu fans. It was the duo's first Rs 100-crore grosser in Telugu cinema.
