Four killed, over 15 injured in road accident on Karur-Salem highway
Four persons, including two children, were killed and more than 15 others sustained serious injuries in a road accident on the Karur-Salem National Highway near Semmadai in Karur district in the early hours of Saturday (May 17, 2025).
According to police sources, a private luxury bus travelling from Salem to Karur rammed a tractor before climbing onto the central median. The bus then veered off and collided head-on with a tourist van coming from the opposite direction, resulting in a pile-up.
The accident occurred around 5 a.m. Fire and Rescue Services personnel from the Karur station, along with Vangal police, rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Several passengers were trapped inside the mangled vehicles and were extricated with difficulty.
Four persons, including two minors, were declared dead on the spot. The injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Karur, while a few others have been admitted to private hospitals in the district. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.
