Folk artist Honnuru Gowramma honored for preserving Sobane songs at special event in Chamarajanagar by district administration.
Folk artiste Honnuru Gowramma, celebrated for her soulful rendition of Sobane songs performed during weddings, festivals, and other traditional occasions, was felicitated at a special programme held in Chamarajanagar on Monday.
The event was jointly organised by the district administration, the Karnataka Janapada Akademi, and Akashvani. Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag presented the felicitation, honouring Ms. Gowramma for her significant contributions to Karnataka’s rich folk traditions. She is the recipient of the Karnataka Janapada Akademi Award for 2023.
Ms. Gowramma hails from Honnuru village in Yelandur taluk of Chamarajanagar district. The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Akademi president Gollahalli Shivaprasad, who commended her work in preserving and promoting folk culture.
In her address, Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag described Chamarajanagar as a district blessed with natural beauty and expansive forests, and lauded its role as a hub for folk arts. She emphasised the importance of identifying and recognizing folk artists, stating that such efforts are vital to reviving and preserving traditional art forms that are gradually fading.
