
Flipkart slammed online for message promoting kitchen appliances on Women's Day, apologises

A Twitter user, Raj S, took to the micro-blogging platform to share a screenshot of a message sent from Flipkart. The message was about a sale of kitchen appliances on the occasion of Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is celebrated across the globe on March 8. While several brands shared unique clips and posts to commemorate the special day as a tribute to women, e-commerce platform Flipkart irked netizens when they tried to promote kitchen appliances on Women’s Day.
A Twitter user, Raj S, took to the micro-blogging platform to share a screenshot of a message sent from Flipkart. The message was about a sale of kitchen appliances on the occasion of Women’s Day.
Incidentally, netizens didn’t take the message well and pointed out that the message was tone-deaf and sexist. Some users felt that the message reinforced the idea that women belong in the kitchen.
“Dear Customer, This Women's Day, let's celebrate You. Get Kitchen Appliances from 299,” read the promotional message from Flipkart.

Several Twitter users wrote about how the message was very problematic and called the company out. Many also pointed out how disrespectful it was to women who were doing all they can to establish themselves as equals in the society.
