Fishermen in Tamil Nadu have threatened to stage a hunger-strike on December 22 in two districts. Separately, Rameswaram fishermen have announced an indefinite strike. They are protesting the arrest of 55 fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Two separate incidents of the arrest of 55 fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy in less than 24 hours have irked the fishing community in Tamil Nadu. Fishermen in Rameswaram and Pudukottai have threatened to go on hunger-strike on December 22.
They demanded the release of all 55 fishermen by December 31 when their judicial custody ends. They said if their demand was not met, they would launch agitation to stop the Sethu Superfast Express from Chennai to Rameswaram.
