Survivors of Dhanushkodi cyclone commemorate 60th anniversary, paying homage to victims of the tragic natural calamity.
Fisherfolk and survivors of the Dhanushkodi cyclone observed the 60th anniversary of the tragedy and paid homage to those who perished in the natural calamity at the isle on Tuesday.
Karuppasamy of Dhanushkodi, whose family was hit by the cyclonic storm on the night of December 22, 1964, said they were still trying to overcome the tragic incidents which shattered their family into pieces.
P. Chelladurai, president, Dhanushkodi Cyclone-affected Fishermen Rehabilitation Association, said “Even after 60 years, the pain is still there. The shapeless buildings and damaged railway line still takes us through the terrific night when people ran around helplessly to save themselves and their dear ones,” he said.

The highlight of every edition of the Whitefield Art Collective is the Kala Car, an exhibit that showcases the creative and artistic prowess of art students. Over the years, this clever play on words has titled vehicles that have either been rescued from the scrap yard or sponsored or auctioned or all of the above.
