The first session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 2025 is set to commence at 9.30 a.m. on January 6 with the customary Governor’s address, Speaker M. Appavu announced on Friday (December 20, 2024).
Interacting with reporters in his chamber at the Secretariat-cum-Assembly complex on the Fort St. George campus in Chennai, the Speaker said the House’s Business Advisory Committee would decide on the duration of the sitting.
“We hope that the Governor reads the entire speech this time,” Mr. Appavu said.
The Speaker also said the monsoon session of the Assembly was held only for two days because it was called for the presentation of a Bill for First Supplementary Estimates, for which elaborate discussion was not needed.
Mr. Appavu said from 2011 to 2021, the monsoon session of the Assembly was held only for two days without any discussion.
Due to factors like general elections and flood-related issues, which required the Ministers and State administration to be on the field, the Assembly session could not be held for a longer duration, he said.
Because of the session being held for fewer days, there has been no hurdle in serving the public, Mr. Appavu added.
