Fact Check: This video was NOT shot from inside the skyscraper that caught fire in China's Changsha

This video has been on the internet at least since March 2021 and supposedly is from a different fire in Shijiazhuang, the capital of north China's Hebei province.

A massive fire broke out in a high-rise building in the central Chinese city of Changsha on September 16. The building houses, among other things, an office of the state-owned telecommunications company China Telecom. Devastating visuals of flames searing dozens of floors of the 42-floor building and thick dark smoke billowing out of windows have been widely shared on social media.

Even as news outlets were reporting preliminary information about the fire, a video supposedly shot by people caught inside the burning tower was shared by many on Twitter. In this extremely short clip shared by Nexta, a Belarusian media outlet, flames could be seen outside the windows of what looked like a deserted office space.

AFWA, however, found that the video in question is more than a year old and is not related to the recent fire incident in Changsha. The archived versions of posts making the claim can be seen here and here.

A reverse search of the keyframes of the video on Google and Yandex yielded the same video shared by multiple Twitter and Facebook accounts in March 2021. According to these posts, the video was captured during a fire that broke out in a 26-floor building in Shijiazhuang, the capital of northern China's Hebei province.

Frontline, a Chinese state-affiliated media outlet, also shared the same video on March 10, 2021, calling it a fire that broke out in Shijiazhuang.
