
Facebook received 40,300 requests for user data from Indian government, restricted access to 878 items in India

A new Facebook report shares insights into the user data requests received by the company from governments around the world, in the second half of 2020.
Facebook recently shared the nature of government requests it has received from all around the world for user data in the second half of 2020. As per the report, the social media major received 40,300 requests from the Indian government for user data in India. The numbers were shared in Facebook’s latest Transparency Report on its Transparency Center, which aims to provide visibility on its policies and response to data requests. As per the report, India made 40,300 requests for user data to Facebook in the July-December 2020 period. Of these requests, 37,865 were marked for legal process, while another 2,435 were emergency disclosure requests. India’s total number of data requests saw a 13.3 per cent jump from the 35,560 requests made in the January-June 2020 period.
