This comes after Russia’s media regulator on Friday announced that FB access in the country would be restricted, after accusing the platform and Meta of breaching “fundamental human rights.”

Facebook announced on Friday that it would ban Russian state media outlets from advertising or monetising their content on the social media network in response to the conflict in Ukraine.

The restriction was revealed in a statement from the company’s head of security, who said, “We also continue to apply labels to additional Russian state media. These changes have already begun rolling out and will continue into the weekend.”

Russia’s media regulator had announced on Friday that Facebook access in the country would be restricted, after Moscow accused the platform and Meta of breaching “fundamental human rights.” This happened after four Russian news outlets had their access limited.

Nathaniel Gleicher, head of security policy at FB, said, "We are now prohibiting Russian state media from running ads or monetising on our platform anywhere in the world. We also continue to apply labels to additional Russian state media. These changes have already begun rolling out and will continue into the weekend. We are closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and will keep sharing steps we are taking to protect people on our platform."
