Excise policy case: If charges against Kejriwal were baseless, how were they framed, says Sudhanshu Trivedi

Sudhanshu Trivedi questions the basis of charges against Kejriwal, citing evidence destruction and political hypocrisy.
Responding to a query on former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia after their discharge by a Delhi court on Friday (February 27, 2026), at a press conference BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the lower court let them off “due to lack of evidence”.
“This is a technical matter...it is also true that many SIM cards and phones were destroyed as evidence,” he said.
“With what intent was that evidence destroyed? What has led to this lack of evidence? It is a technical matter, the CBI will take the next step,” he said, adding that the BJP would give a structured response after studying in depth all the details of the judgment.
“It is also worth considering that if there was no evidence at all, how did the court give permission to frame charges? If the entire charges were baseless, (how) then the charges were framed?” he said.
About Mr. Kejriwal’s charge about a political conspiracy against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders, Mr. Trivedi accused Mr. Kejriwal of hypocrisy.
He said after making false accusations, Mr. Kejriwal had in the past apologised in the Supreme Court, and to several leaders, from BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari and late Arun Jaitley to Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and perhaps Manish Tewari.
