Two men arrested in Bengaluru for illegal arms trade; a 0.32 mm pistol and cartridges seized.
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested two persons on February 25 for allegedly engaging in illegal arms trade from Madhya Pradesh. They seized a 0.32 mm pistol and 50 live cartridges from the duo.
The accused have been identified as Syed Masood (26), a resident of Jayanagar, and Javed Alam (19), a resident of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. According to the police, Masood bought the pistol from Alam on February 25. The firearm did not have a licence.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that CCB Inspector A.K. Rakshith acted on a tip-off and gathered credible information about arms trafficking.
A police source said the accused claimed to have bought the firearm for his own protection, but the police were not convinced by his explanation. Investigations had not identified any such threat.
Further checks revealed that the accused is a small-time goat trader. In addition, neither of the accused has a prior case against them.
“Despite Masood’s self-protection claims, there is no corresponding evidence to support his statement, and the arms trade is illegal. We are continuing our investigation to ascertain the possible reasons for purchasing the firearm,” a police officer said.
