
Europa League final: Manchester United fans attacked in Gdansk ahead of their summit clash against Villarreal

Witnesses said the attackers were heard shouting the name of local football club Lechia. Police said they were analysing video footage and expected to make arrests.
A group of Manchester United fans was attacked on a restaurant terrace in Gdansk late on Tuesday night, ahead of their Europa League final against Villarreal. United plays Villarreal on Wednesday night in the Polish port city. Gdansk mayor Aleksandra Dulkiewicz condemned the attack on a group of between 20 and 30 fans, saying in a statement posted on Facebook. She said that Gdansk is an open city with no place for violence.
Hours after the Tarique Rahman-led BNP government was sworn in, newly appointed state minister for sports, Aminul Haque, said he wanted cases against Awami League-loyalist cricketers, Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, resolved so that they could return to cricket. The former Bangladesh captains served as Awami League MPs and face multiple charges.
