Enforcement Directorate files chargesheet against Sena MP Sanjay Raut, opposes bail plea

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday filed a chargesheet against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in the Patra Chawl redevelopment scam case and also opposed his bail plea.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday filed a chargesheet against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in the Patra Chawl redevelopment scam case and also filed a reply opposing the bail plea filed by the politician.

While opposing the bail plea, ED said that the applicant, in order to avoid a money trail, has been operating behind curtains.

Sanjay Raut was arrested on August 1 in a money laundering case linked to the alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of a Mumbai ‘chawl’, after the ED conducted a search at his residence.

The agency said that the contentions made by Raut in his bail are “Absolutely baseless, devoid of any merits and merely an attempt to deviate from the process of law. The accused is fully involved in the offence of money laundering."

“The accused played a major role in the offence through his proxy and confidant Pravin Raut,” said the agency, while referring to the supplementary complaint filed by them. The agency has already filed a chargesheet against Pravin Raut who is behind bars and had filed a bail plea in May, but it is still to be heard.

Furthermore, the ED denied that the case against the accused suffers from any malice and vendetta.
