Southern Railway said at 11:08 a.m., a coach of the EMU, while leaving Chennai Beach suburban yard, got derailed. No casualty or injury was reported.
Senior officials of Chennai Division, Southern Railway, rushed to the site, and restoration work was carried out.
A. Elumalai, Public Relations Officer, Chennai Division, Southern Railway, said the mainline tracks were clear, and the cause of incident is under investigation. There was no disruption to suburban or mail/express traffic, and train services from Chennai Beach ran as per usual.
Restoration work was completed by 1.30 p.m.
