
Elgar Parishad case: Accused Sudha Bharadwaj released after 3 years in jail

Sudha Bharadwaj, an activist charged in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, was released on bail on Thursday after serving three years in prison.
Activist Sudha Bharadwaj, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, was on Thursday released from prison here on bail, after spending three years in jail.
Bharadwaj was granted default bail by the Bombay High Court on December 1. The HC had then directed a special NIA court to decide on the conditions to be imposed on her.

As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
