A drunk elderly man allegedly killed his wife, daughter-in-law and young granddaughter with a hammer following a long-running domestic dispute in Odisha’s Deogarh district before he fled, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Ramesh, allegedly attacked the two women and the girl late on Wednesday. Police suspect he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the assault and fled following the incident.
The crime came to light when the accused’s son returned home and discovered the bodies. Shocked by the gruesome scene, he immediately informed the police.
According to a preliminary probe, the attack stemmed from a long-running family dispute. In a fit of rage, Ramesh allegedly used a hammer to bludgeon his wife, daughter-in-law and granddaughter to death inside the house before fleeing the scene, police said.
A police team rushed to the spot after receiving the information about the incident and began an investigation. Officers are questioning neighbours and villagers to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the circumstances that led to the killings.
“The incident took place around 11 pm last night. A family dispute is believed to be the main reason behind the incident. Our team reached the spot after receiving information, and a family member has filed a complaint,” a police officer said.
