Over 20 breeds of dogs will take part in a dog show to be held at Kadri Park on January 5 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The event is being held as part of ongoing Karavali Utsava by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration and Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.

Speaking with presspersons here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan said the dog show will feature Labradors, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Beagles, Rottweilers, Shih Tzus, Pomeranians, Cocker Spaniels, Boxers, Siberian Huskies, Pugs, Great Danes, Dachshunds, Dobermans, Rajapalayam hounds, Malteses, Chihuahuas, Dalmatians, Mudhol hounds and Indies. It will also breeds like Chow Chows, Miniature Pinscher, Mini Pom, Poodle, Akita, and Belgian Malinois.
Dogs that are part of the dog squads of Mangaluru City, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District police, will also take part.
Mr. Muhilan said three prizes will be given for dogs in each of the three categories – dogs aged three to six months, six months to one year, and above one year. The best in show cash prize will also be given, he said.
N. Arun Kumar, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department, said the department is conducting the dog show after a gap of four years. The dog show is part of department’s extension work to create public awareness about dogs and its breeds. There will be open registration at the venue and no registration charges. There will be stalls for different breeds at the show, Mr. Kumar said.
