Didn't make a mistake: Trump won't apologise for video depicting Obamas as apes

The video, shared on Truth Social for nearly 12 hours, used manipulated imagery of Barack and Michelle Obama as apes and repeated unproven claims about Dominion's role in the 2020 election.
US President Donald Trump has refused to apologise after briefly sharing a racist video that portrayed former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes, saying he never watched the offensive portion and that a White House staffer was responsible for posting it.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump acknowledged for the first time that he had previewed part of the clip before it went online, even as the White House earlier blamed the post on an internal error.
"I didn’t see the whole thing. I looked at the first part, and it was really about voter fraud in the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is. Then I gave it to the people. Generally, they look at the whole thing. But I guess somebody didn't," Trump said.
When asked about demands from Republicans and others that he apologise, Trump rejected the idea. "I didn't make a mistake. I mean, I look at thousands of things," he said.
The one-minute video was posted late Thursday night on the US President's Truth Social account and stayed online for nearly 12 hours before being removed amid bipartisan outrage, including criticism from Trump allies. Trump later claimed it was taken down "as soon as we found out about it," though the clip had already spread widely.
The video used manipulated imagery, superimposing Barack and Michelle Obama's faces onto ape bodies in a jungle setting, and repeated unsubstantiated claims that Dominion Voting Systems helped steal the 2020 election. It was set to the song 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' and quickly went viral.
