In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Dibyendu Bhattacharya opened up about a hierarchy that used to exist in the industry. The actor also spoke about the challenges he faced in the film industry.

Bollywood actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya has been in the industry for nearly two decades now. Starting his career with Monsoon Wedding, the actor has featured in several movies over the years. He was recently seen in two big projects, Looop Lapeta and Rocket Boys. Things are smooth for the actor on the professional front, but Dibyendu did face challenges when he started his career as an actor.

In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Divyendu went down memory lane and revealed how there used to be a hierarchy in the industry when he started out as an actor.

"Ek zamane mein Industry mein aisa hota tha, distributors ki baat sunke kon sellable hain kon sellable nahi hai, iske saath picture banana, nahi banana, toh vo alag sa hierarchy hota tha. Vo ek samay hota tha ke aap naye naye aaye hote ho seher mein, aapka bohot kuch intezam nahi hain. Main NSD [National School Of Drama] se aaya hu ye bolu kisiko samaj nahi aata hain, vo andar tak communicate karte hai ke koi NSD se hain. Challenges toh the hi. Hum jab aaye the tab television mein episodic stories kaafi hote aur aise mein humko kaam mil jaata tha. Mainstream [cinema] toh dur ki baat hoti thi. Vaha ka setup hi alag hota tha," said Dibyendu.

[Loose translation - A hierarchy used to exist in the industry earlier. At that time, when I came into the industry, I was new. Nobody could understand that I came from NSD (National School Of Drama). There were challenges. When I came, there used to be episodic stories on TV and one could easily get a job there. Mainstream films was a far-fetched thing. The setup used to be different altogether.]

Dibyendu Bhattacharya further added that changes happened slowly and gradually in the industry. "Ram Gopal Varma ki films aayi hain, Anurag Kashyap ki films aayi hain. Dheere dheere structure change hota raha industry ka. Log content pe dhyaan dete rahe aur actors par dhyaan dete rahe, naa ki kuch stars par dhyaan dena. Ye sab changes aankhon ke saamne hua," the actor said, and signed off.
