Delhi airport roof damaged by heavy rain, no injuries reported; city hit by thunderstorms causing flight disruptions.
A part of the roof outside the domestic terminal of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport was damaged after heavy rainfall overnight, but no one was injured.
The tensile fabric, which was used as the roof, tore off as water collected over it.

“A section of the external tensile fabric at the T1 Arrival forecourt adjusted under pressure, thereby aiding in water dispersal. There was no structural compromise or impact to other parts of the terminal,” Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) spokesperson said in a statement.
“Swift action was taken by the ground teams to restore normal conditions, ensuring safety and continuity of operations with minimal disruption” the statement added.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain battered Delhi overnight, disrupting flight operations, uprooting trees and electricity poles, and causing waterlogging in several areas while bringing relief from stifling heat.
The India Meteorological Department said the city’s primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded winds gusting up to 82 km/h and 81.2 mm of rain in six hours — between 11.30 p.m. and 5.30 a.m.
