Delhi Police nabs fugitive criminal for running extortion racket

Delhi Police arrested a fugitive criminal for running an extortion racket. The arrested accused is an active member of Kapil Sangwan and Jyoti Baba gang.
A notorious gangster was arrested by Delhi police on Sunday from Najafgarh-Daurala Road. The gangster, identified as Sonu, a resident of Delhi, was a member of the dreaded Kapil Sangwan and Jyoti Baba gang. Police also recovered a semi-automatic pistol of 0.32 mm and six live cartridges from his possession.
The accused was wanted in two cases which involved demanding extortion of Rs 2 crores from victims. Sonu hatched a conspiracy with Jyoti Prakash Baba, presently lodged in Mandoli Jail, Delhi, to demand extortion from rich affluent people in Delhi.
Sonu and his brother, Anil aka Podi, have been associated with the Nandu-baba gang for the past five years. Both Jyoti Baba and Anil are presently lodged in jail for killing the members of a rival gang.
Upon further interrogation, Sonu told police that he used to provide financial and logistics support, arrange SIM cards and mobile phones as per the directions of Jyoti. He revealed that he also threatened wealthy persons living in Delhi and demanded extortion money from them.
He said that they arranged international numbers, concealed their identities and targeted victims to extort money.
Police filed an FIR upon the complaints of the chairman-cum-owner of Gaushala in the village Surhera and another builder of Vikaspuri area. They alleged that Sonu had demanded an extortion of Rs crore each from them in January. According to the victims, when they refused to give them the money, shots were fired at the gate of Gaushala in Village Surhera to terrorize and pressurize the victim to pay the extortion amount.
Police investigation revealed that Sonu confessed to the crime of throwing a threatening letter in Gaushala to extort money from businessmen. Sonu remained in touch with gang members through WhatsApp and other application-based calls.
