A Reddit user’s encounter with an injured man in a government hospital has made the internet ponder upon the emotional weight and responsibility often carried by sole breadwinners.
In the post titled “Today I was reminded how heavy a man’s responsibilities can be” on r/Delhi, the user wrote about the man who was hospitalised after meeting with a road accident while on his way to work.
The accident left him with a broken leg and severe bleeding, yet, his primary concern was not the pain but whether his employer would keep him on the job.
The Reddit user, who was at the hospital attending to a friend injured in a separate accident, said the man repeatedly worried about informing his office and feared losing his job. “Will my company keep me? Should I drop a mail to my office,” the man asked, even as he awaited surgery.
However, nobody from the man’s workplace visited him to check on his condition. Despite this, the injured man remained calm, smiling and trying to keep his spirits up as he prepared for his operation.
The Reddit user also praised the man’s wife, calling her an “iron lady” for standing firmly by his side, managing his care and focusing on his recovery.

The profiles of at least three of China's leading nuclear, missile and radar experts were scrubbed from the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's most prestigious academic body. This comes as a series of purges under Premier Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign have decimated the upper echelons of China's military and scientific community.
