The civic authorities in the national capital are carrying out an anti-encroachment drive at various localities in Delhi amid strong protests. The drive is underway in Prem Nagar, Madanpur Khadar ward and KN Katju Marg in Rohini and other areas of Delhi.
While the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) removed illegal and temporary structures in Madanpur Khadar and Dhirsen Marg, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) took action in Rohini and Karol Bagh, reported PTI.
Confirming the development, SDMC Central Zone Chairman Rajpal Singh said that the enforcement teams, along with adequate police force and equipped with bulldozers, trucks etc have started removing illegally set up kiosks and temporary structures in Madanpur Khadar.
Singh further said that the drive was not against the poor but against the mafia who encroach upon government land.
An anti-encroachment drive was also carried out at Chand Nagar in Vishnu Garden by the SDMC officials. Even in Prem Nagar area of Patel Nagar, the bulldozers ran on the alleged illegal encroachments. In Madanpur Khadar, the south civic body is demolishing a building that they said was built illegally.
