Delhi Chief Minister announces ₹2,500 monthly scheme for women; budget of ₹5,100 crore allocated, details unspecified.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday (March 8, 2025) said that the Delhi cabinet has passed a government scheme for giving ₹2,500 per month to women.
A budgetary allocation of ₹5,100 crore has been set aside for the scheme, she said.
The BJP’s manifesto had termed the scheme as “Mahila Samriddhi Yojana” to provide financial assistance of ₹2,500 monthly to women from “poor families”.
The Chief Minister however did not specify who all will benefit from the scheme or the total number of beneficiaries.
Ms. Gupta said that Chief Minister-led formed for implementatin of Mahila Samriddhi Yojana.
“The portal will be launched for registration under Mahila Samriddhi Yojana,” the Delhi Chief Minister added.
In the run up to the Delhi Assembly election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the scheme for ₹2,500 per month for women will be passed in the first cabinet meeting of the BJP government and he had termed it as “Modi ki guarantee”. He had also said that women will start getting the money by March 8.
