Deepika Padukone made a strong statement on the first day of the Cannes Film Festival 2022 as she walked the red carpet in a Sabyasachi saree.
In a remarkable fashion moment, Deepika Padukone walked the Cannes red carpet in an ethereal Sabyasachi saree on Tuesday. The actress, who is a part of the eight-member jury at Cannes Film Festival 2022, exuded retro vibes in the blingtastic saree. The celebrated designer, meanwhile, took to Instagram and spilled all the details about Deepika’s red carpet ensemble.
Sabyasachi began his post with a quote: “The sari is a story I will never stop telling. No matter where we are in the world, it has its place.” He went on to add that the Piku actress wore the Bengal Tiger couture saree and statement jewels from his label.
Deepika Padukone wore an all-sequinned saree featuring black and golden stripes inspired by the majestic Bengal tiger. The saree is from the Aakash Tara collection which “celebrates heritage Indian crafts and techniques through a modern lens.”
“The stripes have been block printed and hand embroidered by some of India’s finest craftspeople at the Sabyasachi atelier,” the designer said in his Instagram post.
Deepika Padukone styled the saree with a striking set of jewels. She wore an ornate pair of chandelier earrings and a bejewelled headband from Sabyasachi Jewellery’s Bengal Royale Collection.
As described by the designer, “the headband pays homage to the traditional Indian matha patti headpiece with Art Nouveau detailing, while the chandelier earrings update a classic with an Art Deco gaze.”
Before walking the red carpet in a sequinned saree, Deepika Padukone also nailed a boho and bejewelled look in a Sabyasachi ensemble for the jury photocall. She looked uber-chic in a printed silk shirt and green trousers.
