Dairy Development Minister inaugurates postnatal care unit at Boothapandi hospital, focusing on maternal and child welfare in taluks.
Dairy Development Minister T. Mano Thangaraj inaugurated a postnatal care unit at government taluk hospital in Boothapandi on Monday.
At the event Mr. Mano Thangaraj said that the government had been focusing on developing the state by strengthening infrastructure in every taluk. As part of this initiative, Thovalai taluk had been selected and various development measures were being implemented. Accordingly, a postpartum care unit at the government taluk hospital in Boothapandi had been inaugurated under the Department of Health.
The minister added that the maternal and child welfare unit in the hospital had been upgraded with various facilities, including air conditioned waiting area, amenities for attendants accompanying patients, phototherapy equipment to treat jaundice for infants, incubators for premature babies and other necessary medical systems.
Mr. Mano Thangaraj also noted that the Health Department had been implementing several initiatives to ensure the wellbeing of women during pregnancy period and postpartum period. He mentioned the upgraded facilities, which had been set up at the Boothapandi hospital would soon be extended to other government hospitals, including those in Kuzhithurai and Padhmanabhapuram.
He further highlighted the efforts of village health nurses who conduct home visits to monitor the health of pregnant women and provide necessary care.
Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena, Joint Director Sahaya Stephen, Nagercoil Corporation Mayor R. Mahesh and other officials were present.
