Courageous to terrorist, Vir Das' 2 Indias monologue divides Bollywood
India Today
Vir Das recently performed a monologue titled "I come from Two Indias" in the US. The video has divided Bollywood with some lauding his bravery and others accusing the comedian of insulting India.
Vir Das has created a storm with his "I come from Two Indias" monologue, which he performed at the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington DC recently. In the six-minute video, from rape cases to farmers' protests, the comedian talked about issues in India. While many are lauding him for being courageous, others are slamming him for tarnishing India’s reputation. Bollywood is also divided on the matter. I was very moved by this @thevirdas. I come from an India where it needs courage for a Vir Das to say this, I come from an India where many of us admire this courage, yet choose to remain silent.Vir Das | I COME FROM TWO INDIAS https://t.co/K4BU1OhP4i via @YouTube You said it Hansal.I was not amused as much as I was moved-more by the audience that cheered with their heart for the India that chooses love over hate & shows great dignity & decency in the face of suffering & despair. One that can unashamedly cry for itself yet laugh at itself. https://t.co/sBYPITBtXc I see a terrorist in this man called #VirdasHe is one of those members of a sleeper cell who has waged a war against our country on a foreign land .Should be immediately arrested under #UAPA and tried under terror laws . @AmitShah @HMOIndia @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice pic.twitter.com/RMYQf7a0Ul Gentle reminder that the pursuit of azaadi must also free us from all-season RWA presidents masquerading as politicos. The ‘national image’ argument is irrelevant, when brutal crimes make global headlines and the country has fallen several ranks in ALL indices. So puhleaze. pic.twitter.com/g95sjvJLCS I felt I was in that room. I really did. Thank you for your art @thevirdas https://t.co/2CSe09pIyk You speak for millions of us proud Indians @thevirdasThank you for that https://t.co/JHUrIMQXSm pic.twitter.com/1xwR4Qp5Fw
