Tiruchi Corporation has completed the construction of the new building for the Model Corporation High School at Edamalaipatti Pudur and the officials said that it would start functioning in the upcoming academic year.
At present, the high school and the elementary school function from the same premises on Kaliammankoil Street, resulting in space constraints due to a lack of classrooms. Considering the spurt in enrolment, it has been decided to shift Classes VI to X to the new building. At present, 624 students study at the elementary school and over 700 in the high school. Plans are afoot to upgrade the institution to higher secondary school.
“The construction of the Model Higher Secondary School has been completed and the students will be shifted to the new premises from June 2, enabling classes to begin on schedule,” said a senior Corporation official.
Since the school caters to students from underprivileged backgrounds, introducing Classes XI and XII would benefit the students and reduce dropouts. At present, the city has only one Corporation Higher Secondary School on East Boulevard Road.
The new building has been constructed on a 2.91-acre site in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar at an estimate of ₹9.90 crore sourced from the Corporation’s Education Fund. The construction commenced in May 2023 and was initially slated to be completed within a year.
The school, which has 35,000 sq. ft. of built-up space, aims at providing better educational facilities and improve the quality of education. It will have all modern facilities such as hi-tech labs, a playground, a library, smart class, halls, spacious classrooms, and an assembly area with an open-air auditorium in the middle of the academic blocks.
The ground floor and the first floor of the building will house 16 classrooms, two staff rooms, two office rooms, a lab, and two sanitation complexes. The design of the school was chalked out in a way that facilitates wider corridors, staircases, natural lighting, and good cross ventilation.

The design team at The Indian Twist works on the spontaneous artworks by children and young adults from A Brush With Art (@abwa_chennai) and CanBridge Academy (thecanbridgeacademy), “kneading” them into its products, thereby transforming these artworks into a state of saleability. CanBridge Academy provides life skill training to young adults with autism. And ABWA promotes “expression of natural art in children with special needs”.
