Collectors highlight welfare schemes, infrastructure at gram sabha meetings
Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena participated in the gram sabha meeting held at Swamithoppu village panchayat on Monday, organised in view of the 77th Republic Day celebrated across the country.
Addressing the villagers Ms. Alagumeena said that a total of 912 women are receiving Women’s Right Grant and over 100 people are getting benefited through the old age pension scheme. Highlighting that the region has the ample amount of agricultural lands, she noted that two ponds owned by the Public Works Department in the village have been desilted for the benefit of agricultural lands.
She added, “Domestic water supply connections have been provided to all households in the village through Jal Jeevan Mission, and purified drinking water is being supplied to the village through combined drinking water scheme.”
In Thoothukudi district, District Collector K. Elambahavath presided over the gram meeting held at Pasuvanthanai village panchayat of Ottapidaram panchayat union.
Addressing the residents, he said that according to the 2011 census population of the village was around 4,500 people. However, currently there is a possibility of it increasing up to 7,500.
He asked the villagers to express their view on street lights, drinking water and other necessary infrastructure challenges of the village. He also enquired about the progress of the construction of Primary Health Centre in the village.
