
Collector inspects Mecheri block in Salem

Salem District Collector inspects scheme works in Mecheri block, inaugurates 14 projects worth ₹2.70 crore.
Salem District Collector, R. Brindha Devi, inspected various scheme works taking place at the Mecheri block in the district on Tuesday.
A total of 14 projects at a cost of ₹2.70 crore in the block were inaugurated, including renovation works at the Erumpatti panchayat union primary school, costing ₹9.40 lakh, construction of two new classrooms at the Kuttapatti panchayat union primary school, totalling ₹28.35 lakh, construction of a new Anganwadi centre at Erumapatti at ₹16.55 lakh, construction of toilets in schools at both Erumpatti and Kuttapatti, amounting to ₹7.96 lakh, laying of new roads for a total distance of 2.50 km from Pukkampatti road to Sumaithangi, at a cost of ₹1.36 crore, development of roads from Alagagoundanur to Pukkampatti, costing ₹13.29 lakh.
Speaking to reporters, the collector said that scheme works worth ₹96.10 crore have been taken up in the Mecheri panchayat union over the past three and a half years, through various schemes like the Chief Minister’s village road improvement scheme, the Kalaignar Kavanu Illam scheme, the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Of the 3,062 scheme works taken up, 2,274 works have been completed and 788 works are in progress. Instructions have been given to complete the works at the stipulated time, the collector added.
