Class nine student drowns in well near Walajah

Tragic incident as Class IX student drowns in farm well while bathing with friends in Walajah town.
A Class IX student drowned in a farm well at Manthangal village near Walajah town in Ranipet on Wednesday. He was taking bath along with his friends in the waterbody.
Police said the deceased had been identified as A. Omprakash, 14, a native of Walajah town where he was studying in a private higher secondary school.
Initial inquiry revealed that along with a group of friends in the area, Omprakash went to the well to take bath despite not knowing how to swim. The well is owned by farmer V. Kandan, 52
While they were taking bath on the staircase of the well, he slipped into the waterbody, which is around 40-ft deep. As their friends cried for help, farmers and other residents rushed to the spot. However, he drowned. Fire fighters from Ranipet retrieved the body from the well. A case was registered by Walajah police. A probe is under way.
