The premium crossover/hatchback segment seems to be the next bread and butter for many manufacturers, as till the next financial year, India will have more than half a dozen vehicles vying for a larger share of the sales pie. As such, Citroen is ready to bring in its new India-specific Citroen C3 crossover, which will be its smallest offering in the country. Now, the new Citroen C3 crossover will be designed, developed and produced in India from the French carmaker’s production facilities in Tamil Nadu, so expect it to fetch an aggressive price, as it will rival a host of vehicles in the sub-4m crossover, premium hatches as well as small SUVs. The new C3 is in line with the company’s India strategy to introduce a new product every year till 2025, and will join the Citroen C5 AirCross in the brand’s India portfolio.
Roland Bouchara - CEO & MD, Stellantis India said, “The C3 is a very crucial part of our India growth journey and will be the backbone of our local development strategy. This car fits right into the heart of the Indian market where 70 per cent of the demand for sub-4 metre cars and 50 per cent of customers are first-time buyers. This segment has been growing rapidly and C3 will fit right in with its affordability and attractiveness. We will be leveraging our R&D centre in Chennai, the vehicle assembly plant at Thiruvallur and the powertrain plant at Hosur in the state of Tamil Nadu, in India, to further boost localization efforts.”
