Court order comes despite govt.’s appeal for more time to decide NGO’s request
The Delhi High Court on Thursday allowed Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), whose registration has been temporarily suspended for alleged violations of foreign contribution law, to utilise a portion of its funds in the Central government’s custody for payment of salaries to employees. Justice Rekha Palli said that Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative made out a prima facie case to “utilise the amount lying in custody to the extent of 25% to meet expenses pertaining to salaries of employees and other personnel engaged in projects undertaken before passing of the impugned order [of suspension]”. The court’s order came despite Central government standing counsel Anil Soni’s request for more time to decide the CHRI’s request as the authority concerned was awaiting the report of the field agency.More Related News
