The government had originally proposed to construct a pedestrian subway near SDNB Vaishnav College.
Pallavaram MLA I Karunanithi said, "After several rounds of talks with the highway minister (EV Velu) and Southern Railway, the design has been changed now. Cars, bikes and small buses can use the subway now," The Times of India (TOI) quoted Pallavaram MLA I Karunanithi as saying.
The initial cost of the proposal was around Rs 4.5 crore. Now, it has been increased to Rs 92 crore.
Reportedly, the cost will be shared between the state and Railways government agencies on a 50:50 basis.
