Chandigarh adviser pulls up admn’s societies over working complaints, warns of strict action

Chandigarh Adviser Dharam Pal warned the societies formed by the Chandigarh administration to follow rules or face strict action. Of late, the functioning of these societies has been under the radar owing to working complaints.

In the backdrop of several complaints received against the societies of the administration, Chandigarh Adviser Dharam Pal warned them of strict action if they failed to follow the rules. Following various complaints about the working of societies, Pal chaired a meeting on the functioning of societies and told the office bearers not to violate the rules or face strict action.

Pal gave a strict warning to the office bearers of the societies and instructed them to hold regular executive council and annual general body meetings, the Hindustan Times (HT) reported.

The bearers have been asked to prepare annual audit reports and put them in the public domain and follow their laid down constitutions. The report suggests that societies allegedly compromised on revenue receipts and budgetary allocations.

"We have been receiving several complaints against the work of these societies. There were complaints that their stipulated meetings were not held as per rules and there were issues in their audit reports. So, we called a meeting to review their functioning," he was quoted by HT as saying.

It is to be noted that the UT officials look after the regular functioning of the various societies for most of the key departments. The alleged issue in the audit reports of the societies has put their work under the scanner for some time.

RK Garg, president Second Innings Association, told HT, “In these societies, the general financial rules of the government can be bye-passed, without inviting any audit objections.”
