Mass plantation of the species across 17 hectares in Purakkad has saved the shore from high tides
Buoyed by the success of its coastal protection efforts using Casuarina trees (scientifically known as Casuarina Equisetifolia) in parts of Alappuzha, the Forest Department is set to extend the ‘bio-shield’ to more coastal areas in Kerala. Eight years since the mass plantation of the species known commonly as Kattadi trees across 17 hectares in the Purakkad grama panchayat, the region has found them to be effective in saving shores from high tides especially during the monsoon season.More Related News
