Caste census announcement a victory for Telangana’s people and govt.: Bhatti
HYDERABAD
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the Centre’s announcement to conduct a caste census was the result of pressure exerted by the Telangana government (Praja Palana) and the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
“The declaration to conduct a caste census across the country is a victory for Telangana’s people and their government,” he said.
Addressing a gathering of BC Employees’ Association and leaders of various BC caste organisations that honoured him in Khammam on Saturday, Mr. Vikramarka stated that the Telangana government had scientifically conducted a caste census, setting an example for the country.
“After India’s Independence, Telangana is the only State to have carried out a comprehensive caste census successfully without objections,” he said. The Deputy CM added that government would incorporate the caste survey findings into policy-making decisions.
He credited the people’s government for implementing 42% BC reservations and noted that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Cabinet are working sincerely towards this goal.
The caste census outcomes should be shared with the public and BCs should support the government, he said, adding that a resolution demanding a nationwide caste census was passed during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Gujarat, which led to raising the issue in Parliament and ultimately compelled the Centre to agree to a national caste census.
