Call of Duty: Warzone is coming to smartphones as another big battle-royale title by Activision

Activision has confirmed that a mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone is in the making. Here is what we expect from the next big battle royale title on phones.

Smartphone gamers who love FPS titles are in for a treat as Activision has announced yet another version of Call of Duty for mobile phones. The popular battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone is now being built "natively for mobile," the company has confirmed in a recent blog post.

Activision says that the new Call of Duty: Warzone will bring a “large-scale, battle royale experience” to mobile gamers, though not much information has been shared about the game as of now. There is not even a snapshot or video of the gameplay to hint at what the widely popular game may look like on a smartphone.

The post contains some job listings from the developer, hinting that the game is still in development. Possibly, for this reason, Activision has not even shared an estimated release date for the game.

For those unaware, Call of Duty: Warzone is one of the top titles among battle royale FPS games across platforms. Launched in 2020, the game is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows. A hint at its popularity can be taken from the fact that the game saw around 8 million monthly active users between the months of January and February.

Its new venture into smartphones, however, raises an important question - whether the game will support cross-platform play. Activision can design it in a way that Call of Duty: Warzone gamers on mobile will be able to compete with those playing on the PlayStation, Xbox, or Windows. Or, it could make it exclusive to mobiles, wherein gamers on smartphones will only compete among themselves.

We can take some hints from the existing version of Call of Duty on phones, named Call of Duty: Mobile. The game is available on both Android and iOS and offers some of the most realistic graphics seen in battle royale games, along with a sophisticated selection of weapons and accessories.

Call of Duty: Warzone will likely bring a much bigger play area than this version. The graphics may remain just about the same, though we will likely see a setting based in a war-torn region, pertaining to the name of the game. While these are just some educated guesses, for now, one sure thing is the fact that the game will see a blockbuster welcome on smartphones, just as the Call of Duty: Mobile did upon its launch in 2019.
