Accused Manimaran from Telangana attempts to snatch gun from police during burglary verification in Palakkad, known for aggressive behavior.
Setti Mani alias Manimaran, 41, an accused from Warangal in Telangana held in connection with three recent burglaries in Palakkad town, tried to snatch the gun of a sub-inspector during the verification at one of the houses here on Thursday.
Manimaran was brought to the house of Sivadasan at Pratibha Nagar, Kalmandapam, from where he had reportedly burgled ₹7.5 lakh on May 14. During the verification he attempted to snatch the gun of Sub-Inspector H. Harshad.
But the agile police officer foiled Manimaran’s attempt and pinned him to the ground. The police said Manimaran was known for his belligerent behaviour.
It was on Tuesday that the Kasaba police here took custody of Manimaran from Coimbatore jail and brought him to Palakkad in connection with the three burglaries that took place on May 14.
The police said Manimaran was reportedly involved in more than 70 burglaries and thefts in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
They said Manimaran was known for his aggressive behaviour and had committed thefts both solo and with accomplices.
The Judicial First Class Magistrate here had remanded him to police custody on Wednesday. He was brought for verification to the crime scene. The police said he would be sent back to Coimbatore jail after completing the investigation formalities.
