Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls, the civic body has claimed to have filled over 7,000 potholes on Mumbai roads.
Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, the civic body has claimed to have fixed more than 7,000 potholes on Mumbai roads in three months.
The BMC said it has addressed the pothole issue in the city by fixing 7,211 potholes from April 1, 2022, to July 7, 2022.
“There were 10,199 pits in the same period last year, which means the number of pits has decreased this year,” said the civic body.
BMC further said it has taken various measures, including the appointment of teams and contractors, to solve the problem of potholes in the rainy season on the roads within the BMC limits, and to maintain the roads.
“There are about 2,055-km long roads in Mumbai metropolis. Of these, 1,255 km are asphalt and 800 km are concrete roads. Due to the properties of bitumen in asphalt roads, potholes are a regular occurrence amid contact with water during monsoons. With this in mind, various measures are taken every year by the administration to solve the problem of potholes on the roads. Such measures have been taken again this year,” said the BMC.
