Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin criticizes Union government for betraying Tamil Nadu over fund allocation, plans further action with CM.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday said that the Union government continued to betray Tamil Nadu over allocation of funds.
Addressing reporters after laying the foundation stone for constructing a jallikattu arena at Suriyur, he pointed out that the DMK and its allies held a demonstration in Chennai against the BJP government’s refusal to allot funds to the State.
Further action would be taken in consultation with Chief Minister M.K Stalin. The DMK’s youth wing organisers’ meeting had been convened in Chennai on Thursday evening wherein further course of action would be discussed as well.
On the non-allocation of funds to Tamil Nadu under the NDRF even as a few other States were given additional Central assistance for floods and other disasters in 2024, Mr. Udhayanidhi said the Union government had been refusing to allocate funds. There was no announcement for Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget as well. The State sought ₹6,600 crore, but the BJP government released just ₹900 crore. The State government had once again reiterated the need to release funds. The Union government continued to betray the State and the people were watching it.
Earlier, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said that ₹3 crore would be spent to build the jallikattu arena in Tiruchi. It would have two galleries with a capacity to seat 800 spectators. Construction of a vadivasal, a multi-purpose hall and a change room were among the components of the project. It would be completed within November. The next year’s jallikattu would be held in the new stadium at Suriyur.
