Lourd Nathan was arrested by Bengaluru police for posing as a CCB constable and selling a ‘seized’ scooter for Rs 17,000. He was arrested in November 2021 for a similar case, but he got bail in a month and returned to his old ways.
A security guard, posing as a Central Crime Branch (CCB) constable, cheated a man of Rs 17,000 by selling him a ‘seized’ scooter. The actual value of the scooter was more than the selling amount.
The accused told the victim that a huge backlog of seized vehicles lying in police stations was the reason for selling the scooter so cheaply.
Lourd Nathan (43) was arrested by Sampigehalli police after one of his reported victims filed a complaint. Police said that Nathan came in contact with the buyer a few weeks ago, and introduced himself as a constable working in the Central Crime Branch.
Last week, Nathan offered to sell him a used scooter for Rs 17,000, which was much less than its actual value. Nathan told him that there was a huge backlog of seized vehicles, which was why he was selling the scooter so cheaply.
The buyer believed him, without knowing that vehicles seized by police can only be released with a court order. He paid the money, but Nathan did not provide the scooter even after many days.
Realising the con, the buyer approached the police on Tuesday, February 1. Police tracked Nathan the same day.
A senior police officer stated that Nathan had cheated another person in November 2021 with the same method. He was arrested in the case, but got bail after a month and went back to his old ways, said the officer.
